Updated February 19, 2011 I’ve had EMPIRE Zoysia lawn since June 2003 & still love it for it’s many great qualities. It’s “EZ” lawn compared to the multitude of problems associated with St. Augustine. EMPIRE Zoysia is weed and drought resistant – uses less water than St. Augustine does. It’s thick dominant root system strangles out most weeds - if you’re getting dollar weeds you’re over watering. It has a rich dark green appealing color, especially after a 10:10:10 fertilizer application. It’s a tough, resilient grass that bounces back after the cold of a severe Winter, yet soft to the touch. In Winter it browns out in patches, but overall stays MUCH greener than St. Augustine does. With EMPIRE Zoysia you’ll NEVER have a Chinch bug problem or a Bermuda takeover. It only grows ½ to 1” a week. You can mow it with a regular rotary mower (it does however prefer the clippings to be caught & bagged).
